Kybella™ is the first and only FDA-approved injectable medication to improve moderate to severe fullness due to submental fat, or a “double chin” in laymen’s terms. Kybella is made of deoxycholic acid and is injected into the submental fat in order to destroy the fat cells. Once destroyed, these fat cells cannot store or accumlate fat again.
The treatment should be performed only by trained physicians who are very familiar with the anatomy. Treatment is generally carried out in 2-4 treatment sessions. The injections are done in the office and the patient can drive to and from the appointment. Some swelling and redness are expected after treatment and many patients report temporary numbness.
This treatment is popular among men and women. Dr. Vessely performs a consultation to ensure that each patient treated is a good candidate and understands the treatment process. Generally, there is some skin tightening noted in the area after healing, but some patients may note some skin laxity once the fat has been resorbed. The combination of Kybella and Ultherapy may be helpful in patients with both excess fat and excess skin in this area.
We are very excited to offer this state-of-the art treatment. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Vessely to learn more and to start the treatment process.
